magos-1080.jpg

For over 50 years, Saint Peter’s has been a spiritual and community center for jazz artists. At a time when so many find themselves at a distance, we come together here to connect, reflect and find healing and strength, united by a love for this music that has always been defined by the moment. Together with Crescendo and Soapbox Gallery, Saint Peter's presents the "In This Moment" concert series, designed to lift up our incredible jazz community and the musicians who pour their hearts into it.

On June 5, join us for the "In This Moment" concert featuring Magos Herrera.

Broadcasting Saturday, June 5 at 2pm (ET) on Facebook and YouTube.

Join us on Zoom at 1:30 pm for a watch party with Magos and Ike Sturm.

About Magos Herrera

Visionary singer and bandleader Magos Herrera created a new program of music called "Con Alma" to speak to this season of life. Born in Mexico City and currently residing in New York, Magos has been a frequent collaborator at jazz vespers and for our concert programs, soaring effortlessly over her band's intricate lines and textures. This set features brand new pieces performed by Vinícius Gomes on guitar, Benje Garcia on bass and Alex Kautz on drums and was recorded at UCLA. Special thanks to UCLA for hosting and to Crescendo for their generous artist grant.

About In This Moment

Welcome to In This Moment, concerts hosted by Saint Peter’s Church in NYC, designed to lift up our incredible jazz community and the musicians who pour their hearts into it. At a time when so many find themselves at a distance, we come together here to connect, reflect and find healing and strength, united by a love for this music that has always been defined by the moment.

For over 50 years, Saint Peter’s has been a spiritual and community center for jazz artists. I’m grateful for our friends at the Crescendo Network for making this series possible and for Saint Peter’s for hosting these performances.

Each artist was asked to create a set of music that speaks to their own perspective in the midst of the illness, racial injustice and all that surrounds us. We hope to lift up and sustain these artists and what they bring to each of us, offering our communities creative and inspiring ways to meet.

Thanks for joining us. Hope you enjoy the concert!
Ike Sturm, Director of Music, Jazz
