Sound Utopias: The 100th Anniversary of the Bauhaus Art Movement

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the BAUHAUS, an influential art and architecture movement, the Israel Conservatory of Music (Tel Aviv) and the German National Youth Jazz Orchestra, BuJazzO, present a live-music to picture program with original compositions by prominent German and American jazz composers. All the infectious energy of youth, all the excellence of world-class professionals: Students of the Israel Conservatory of Music and the BuJazzO collaborate in this joyous celebration of the BAUHAUS!

The project represents an exciting collaboration between Israel Conservatory of Music, BuJazzO, the Eastman School of Music, and Eastman Museum for Film and Photography in Rochester (USA). The program premiered at the Kurt Weill Fest Dessau (Germany) in March 2018 and thanks to funding by the Federal Foreign Office will come to New York, Rochester and Chicago in 2019.

Musical Director Niels Klein is considered one of the hottest young musicians in the German jazz scene today. An internationally touring saxophonist and clarinetist, he received the ECHO Jazz Prize in 2015 and the WDR Jazz Prize in 2011. His own projects and compositions for jazz and classical ensembles continue to draw critical acclaim. He is Professor of Jazz Saxophone at the Conservatory for Music and Dance in Cologne since 2016.
