Paul Egensteiner elected bishop of the ELCA Metropolitan New York Synod

CHICAGO  – The Rev. Paul T. Egensteiner, Brooklyn, New York, was elected May 17 to serve a six-year term as bishop of the Metropolitan New York Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The election took place during the Synod Assembly, held May 16-18 at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, N.Y.

Egensteiner was elected on the fifth ballot, with 250 votes. The Rev. Christopher Mietlowski, pastor of Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church in New York, received 198.
