Celebrating Rosalind Rees Smith’s 55th Year

The year 2025 marks Rosalind Rees Smith’s 55th season with the Saint Peter’s Choir. From her very first year as a soprano section leader in 1970 down to today, Roz’s musical acumen has only ever been outpaced by her warmth, humility and unwavering dedication. Together with her regular collaborator and late husband, Gregg Smith, Roz remains one of the most celebrated interpreters of Stravinsky and Ives, indeed countless American composers, and defining choral musicians of our time. How fortunate we are to sing praises to God with a person of such enormous talent and grace.

In thanksgiving for Roz’s enduring leadership, a newly created choral music cart — essential to the life of the Saint Peter’s Choir as it prepares and presents music from Bach to Barber, Bonds to Britten — has been crafted and will be dedicated Easter Sunday 2025. The tributary anthem for the occasion will be Gregg Smith’s Seven Stanzas at Easter, commissioned by Saint Peter’s in 1995 to honor former Cantor Thomas E. Schmidt.

Gifts in honor of Roz may be made throughout the Great 50 Days of Easter. Names of donors will be inscribed on the commemorative plaque and affixed to the choral music cart on Holy Trinity Sunday, June 15 — the final “choir Sunday” of this season.

All gifts collected by June 8, 2025 will be inscribed on the commemorative plaque. Donors will also be featured below.
