All Holy Week liturgies are in the Sanctuary.
April 15, 16 and 17 (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday)
We accompany Jesus each of these days and drawer nearer to Christ's cross. Each day has a special emphasis: Anointing for healing on Monday; Reconciliation on Tuesday; Peace on Wednesday.
Mass is celebrated at 6:00 p.m. each day.
April 18 is Holy Thursday
Liturgies at noon time and evening are designed to enable your full participation in the two major events of this day.
At 12:00 and 6:00 p.m., we celebrate "Maundy" (command) Thursday with confession, forgiveness and foot washing, responding to Jesus' command to love and serve one another.
At 12:30 and 6:30, we join Jesus and his disciples for the Passover meal and celebrate Christ's institution of Holy Communion, the mass.
April 19 is Good Friday
and Christ's passion holds our attention and has central place.
From noon until 3:00 p.m., our cantor and choir with full orchestra and extraordinary soloists lead us to Christ's cross via the soaring magnificence of J.S. Bach’s St. John Passion. Liturgically and musically, this is the most important 3 hours of the year.
At 7:00 p.m., we are invited into the drama of Saint John's Passion by Creative Proclamations in one of our most innovative and moving liturgies.
Saturday, April 20
At 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, we celebrate the Great Vigil of Easter with our sisters and brothers of Iglesia de Sion. This liturgy has several parts.
It begins at the newly-reopened plaza at 53rd Street and Lexington Avenue with the new fire kindled and the new Paschal Candle lit and blessed.
It continues in the Sanctuary with a series of readings from the Hebrew scriptures, each anticipating the gifts of Christ's dying and rising and concludes with a procession to the baptismal font.
The first Mass of Easter is celebrated with joy, thanksgiving and many alleluias.
