About Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday we celebrate with joy the mystery of Christ’s resurrection. Every year, the evening reading for Easter Sunday is the “Road to Emmaus,” that moment when Jesus meets startled disciples along the way, greets them in peace, sits at table with them, opens scripture to them and encourages them to return to Jerusalem to “wait to be clothed with power from on high.”

“While they were talking, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’ … Then he said to them, ‘These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled.’ Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures. And see, “I am sending upon you what my Father promised; so stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high’.”
--Saint Luke 24:36, 44, 49
